The Adams Central National Honor Society is proud to celebrate a significant milestone this year as we launch the 40th Annual Canned Food Drive, running from December 8–12. For four decades, Adams Central students and families have consistently stepped up to support our community, and this tradition continues to be one of the most meaningful service projects of the school year. To honor this anniversary, NHS has set an ambitious challenge for our school community: collecting 4,040 canned and nonperishable items from the High School, and an additional 4,040 items from the Elementary and Preschool. Reaching these numbers would mark one of the largest contributions in our history.
This effort is especially important now. Our local food pantry is experiencing record demand, with half of its current users being first-time families facing unexpected hardship. Each donation—whether it is a single can or a full bag of items—directly supports families in the Hastings area who are relying on community generosity more than ever before.
Students, parents, and community members can participate by placing their donations in their Patriot Period collection boxes. As an added incentive, the class that contributes the most items will earn an ice cream celebration. Additionally, if the school meets the overall collection goal, students will enjoy a day off on January 5.
As we reflect on forty years of this tradition, we invite everyone to help make this our most impactful collection yet. The spirit of service has always been a hallmark of the Adams Central community, and this year offers a chance to honor that legacy in an even greater way. Together, we can continue supporting the families who need it most and uphold the values that make our school such a special place.
