At Adams Central, our goal is simple. We want every student to graduate with options. Some will choose a four year university. Others may start a two year program, earn a technical degree, join the military, or enter the workforce. Whatever path they choose, we want each Patriot to have doors open. One of the biggest keys to that is the ACT.
The ACT is not just another test. It helps colleges and universities see that a student is ready for what comes next. For many two year colleges, ACT scores determine if a student can start in credit bearing courses instead of placement or remedial classes. For four year colleges, those scores can make a difference in admissions and scholarships. A few extra points on the ACT can mean thousands of dollars in financial aid and more college choices down the road.
That is why we are proud to offer free access to OnToCollege (OTC) for all Adams Central students. This online resource helps students raise their scores and build confidence. OTC includes video lessons, practice tests, study tips, and motivational tools. It is available anytime and anywhere. Our juniors use OTC during Patriot Period to prepare for the ACT. Seniors still interested or planning to take the ACT still have access to these resources as well. The platform also has resources for the Pre ACT and for general test taking strategies that benefit all students. It is an incredible resource, and every AC student already has access to it at no cost. Students who would like to get set up with their OTC account can reach out to Mr. Harrington for help.
This fall, Adams Central was excited to welcome John Baylor to our school. John is the creator of OTC and also the voice of Husker Volleyball. According to his website https://www.ontocollege.com/, “John’s contrarian techniques have inspired students for more than two decades—improving scores, scholarships, and college choices. Used by more than 800 high schools in 27 states, OnToCollege’s online Courses routinely increase an entire high school’s ACT® Test score average 1-3 points and SAT® Test score average 50-150 points.” He spoke directly to all sophomores and juniors about the importance of the ACT. His message was to provide all students with simple, easy strategies and tips to score better on the ACT.
We also encourage students to take the ACT more than once. Most students improve each time they take it. The first time helps them get comfortable with the format. The second and third times give them the chance to fine tune their strategy and pacing. By the time the schoolwide ACT arrives, they are ready to do their best. Students have several chances to take the ACT before the statewide test on April 7. The December and February ACT dates are great opportunities to get extra practice. We highly recommend signing up for one or both of those tests and using the OTC resources to prepare. In the end, the ACT is more than a score. It is a stepping stone to opportunity, growth, and confidence. With the right preparation, persistence, and support, every Patriot can walk into test day ready to succeed and take the next big step toward their future.
