Adams Central has always been proud of its student involvement in
extracurricular activities. Now, the Patriots have been recognized by the NSAA and the Nebraska State College System as well.
The Patriots earned the top spot in Class B for the 2021-22 Nebraska State Colleges Multi-Activity Student Award!
The award is based on the number of high school students who participate in multiple NSAA activities. Adams Central has 36 percent of its high school students(103 of 286) taking part in at least two NSAA activities. Fellow Central Conference member Aurora was right behind the Patriots with 33 percent participation.
It’s a tribute to the Patriot student body not only wanting to excel in the classroom, but also in other areas, including the playing field and the stage, according to Alan Frank, Adams Central Activities Director.
“Adams Central has long been known as a top-notch school academically, but what enhances that is when our kids look to better themselves musically, as athletes, as speakers and writers,” Frank said. “And as many activities the NSAA offers, Adams Central offers even more for our students - FFA, FBLA, SkillsUSA - just to name a few.”
AC sophomore Lucy Fago participates in six NSAA activities - instrumental and vocal music, journalism, swimming, track and field and volleyball. She loves being busy and involved, and NSAA activities offer her lots of options and opportunities.
“Adams Central offers many things to be involved in, and they’re high-quality activities, too,” Fago said. “I love being around the people and I really feel like (my peers), coaches and teachers are helping shape me into the person I want to be.”
Fago is a great student academically, and she said being involved in activities only enhances her time as an Adams Central student.
The award is sponsored by the Nebraska State College System (Chadron State College, Peru State College and Wayne State College) and the NSAA. Other winners are Norfolk in Class A, Pender in Class C and Pope John in Class D.
Adams Central and the other winning schools will receive the award at halftime of the Class A Boys State Soccer Championship at Morrison Stadium in Omaha. The game and awards ceremony will be televised live on Nebraska Public Media.
